More than 5,000 measles cases confirmed in US amid deaths reported in 8 states
Updated CDC data shows at least 5,182 measles cases have been confirmed across the United States in 2026, in 45 states and Washington, D.C., the first time the national count has topped 5,000 since the 1990s. State health officials have confirmed eight measles-associated deaths this year, including six in Pennsylvania, and three deaths were confirmed this week alone, among them an infant in Wisconsin. About 96 percent of cases are among people who are unvaccinated or whose vaccination status is unknown, and most cases are among children and teenagers ages 5 to 19. Health officials recommend two doses of the MMR vaccine, but coverage has slipped to 92.4 percent in the 2025-26 school year. Source: ABC News via Yahoo News, November 6, 2026.
