California City Makes History Allowing Throuples, Foursomes to Legally Register as Partners

A California city has made history by allowing multi-partner relationships, including throuples and foursomes, to legally register as domestic partners, according to a November 4, 2026 report. The ordinance from West Hollywood expands a domestic-partnership registry that was traditionally limited to two-person couples, extending formal recognition to polyamorous households. Supporters frame the change as a matter of equal recognition and practical rights for families that already live together, while the move also places the city among the first in the country to formally recognize multi-partner unions. The policy reflects West Hollywood's long history of progressive local ordinances. Source: New York Post, November 4, 2026.
